CBT is a problem-focused, time limited therapy that aims to identify the negative beliefs that keep people trapped in ways of thinking and behaving. By identifying these behaviours and the thinking styles we adopt in order to cope with our beliefs we can then start to find ways to change thinking patterns and behaviours to bring about positive change. CBT is a highly interactive form of therapy so clients will be asked to undertake homework between sessions: homework is an integral part of the treatment.
CBT is primarily focused on the experiences and difficulties we are coping with in the present day although we will look back to a limited extent into childhood and early life for the roots of these experiences.
